Banners set to showcase children's art

12/09/2008 10:41:00 AM
The art of little children is to be showcased through a series of community banner making workshops now underway for the Kids at Heart Festival.

The Pelican Puppets Banner Making Workshops are part of a series of community workshops in Dubbo, Narromine Shire and Wellington being held up until Children’s Week (October 19-25) and culminating at the Kids at Heart Festival in Dubbo on Saturday October 25.

The workshops focus on stories of the heart and children and their carers are encouraged to draw whatever inspires them.

According to Pelican Puppets Facilitator Sean Manners the workshops reflect the community environment and the kids feel a wonderful sense of achievement at helping to create a community banner.

“They also feel proud and excited that they will get to see their own drawings displayed at the festival including their footprints and handprints reflected as signatures,” he said.

Workshops in Narromine and Trangie took place on Wednesday, with the next ones to be held on Wednesday October 15 at the Trangie Church Playgroup Hall from 9am to 11am and at the Narromine Playgroup from 1pm to 3pm.

Following this will be workshops with the kids’ songman Johnny Huckle and hip hop workshops for dads. To participate parents and carers can contact Angela Prior on 0430 406 616.

For a detailed program of all of the community workshops and the main event, visit www.communitiesforchildren.com.au or contact your local Communities for Children Early Childhood co-ordinator.

The Communities for Children initiative is part of the Stronger Families and Communities Strategy funded by the Australian Government in partnership with Centacare Wilcannia-Forbes for Dubbo, Narromine Shire and Wellington.
