M2100 invites you to movie screening

08 Feb, 2012 08:38 AM
How much do we know about the food we buy at our local supermarkets and serve to our families?

In a world riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic of diabetes, the producers of the film Food, inc. lift the veil on the food industry, exposing the highly mechanised underbelly that’s been hidden from the consumer with the consent of the government agencies. Our region is built on food and fibre production. What do some of the issues raised in this film mean for us?

Kirsty Wettenhall from Macquarie 2100 is inviting you to a free screening of the 2009 award-winning movie Food, inc. This will be held at the Trangie Golf Club on Friday February 17 at 7pm.

“Get a table of friends together and view this thought provoking film and be part of the Q and A discussion with a panel of knowledgeable “locals”,” Kirsty said.

This includes Mr Ian Rogan as chair for the night.

“Ian needs little introduction having worked at Trangie research station in sheep genetics,” Kirsty said.

“He has also been a rural consultant with Hassall and Associates, general manager of the Narromine Shire and is now on the board of Central West Catchment Management Association.”

Other panelists include:

Mr Karl Sinclair who is currently National Australia Banks Regional Agribusiness Manager, farmer and past principal of Ag Farm Marketing, a company which specialised in grain marketing for the farmers in this region; Mr Mike Parish who has for the past six years worked as an educator and advisor for Resource Consulting Services (RCS) and operates a health food store with his wife in Dubbo. He has more than 20 years’ experience managing agricultural properties using holistic management experience, during which time he developed several properties that were certified organic beef operations.

“Mr David Ward is also a panel member,” Kirsty said.

“David has been an agricultural consultant, agronomist, trainer and facilitator in sustainable and holistic farming practices for the last 17 years. He is currently the general manager of Holistic Results and, along with his father, strives to build resilient agricultural businesses; be they multi-nationals or family owned.”

Mr Kevin Humphries our local NSW Government member, Minister for Mental Health, Minister for Healthy Lifestyles and Minister for Western NSW is also on the panel.

“Farmers from the audience will be encouraged to comment from their perspective,” Kirsty said.

“M2100 is sure these panelists will produce a lively discussion and give us all something to think about, so come along, bring a basket supper, be informed and inspired and enjoy some Trangie hospitality; bar facilities available.”
