Three days of fun-filled celebrations planned for 125 years of education

05 Sep, 2008 12:28 PM
Plans are well underway for the celebrations to commemorate 125 years of education at Narromine High and Narromine Public schools.

Sandra Irvine from the organising committee said the celebrations would be spread over three days, September 19, 20 and 21.

“The cake cutting on Saturday and the get together on Saturday night will probably be the highlight,” she said.

“Everybody who has been associated with the school both past and present is invited.

“We’re really emphasising it’s not just a reunion, it’s for current staff, volunteers, parents and students - anybody associated with either school.”

Mrs Irvine said the events would take place to celebrate how successful education had been in Narromine for the past 125 years.

“We’ve got great facilities and this is to showcase them,” she said.

“There will be an official opening of the new walkways at the Narromine Public School and class activities open to the public so people can come in and see the school in operation.

“The day will finish off with a picnic lunch for everyone with the kids, teachers and students dressing up to the theme of anything from the last 125 years.”

Other activities, to take place on Saturday include the celebration cake cutting at 10am, open classrooms with smartboard demonstrations and historical presentations, a high school fete with amusement rides and stalls and a get together at the Narromine Bowling Club from 5.30pm including live music, slide shows and historical displays.

“If you would like to book a stall for the high school fete please phone 6889 1499 or email narromine-reunion@ hotmail.com,” said Mrs Irvine.

“We are also looking for photos past or present for our displays please drop them into the public school admin office or email them to narromine-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au .

“More information is available on the public school website www.narromine-p.school.nsw.edu.au .”
