Colleagues, neighbours and friends may be looking at each other sideways after the launch of a charity calendar to raise money for the Narromine Cancer Support Group.
A host of local businesses and organisations signed on to strip off for the calendar which went on sale last week.
The 2010 calendar, which carries the rose of Narromine on the front cover, was the brainchild of David Sharpe, Rhonda Russel and Edgerton Nursery and organisers said it would raise thousands for the local cancer charity which is busy building a new palliative care unit at Narromine Hospital.
President of the NCSG, Neville Roberts, said the calendar embodied Narromine’s generosity and community spirit.
“Its fantastic...it just shows what the Narromine community is capable of,” he said.
“We certainly appreciate it very much.”
Charity secretary Deion Starkey said it would be a great fundraiser and thanked all those who took part.
“We are thrilled to bits about it all actually and it’s a great fundraiser - the calendar is just great,” she said.
“It’s taken on so well and everyone’s been so happy to be involved so it has been really great.”
The calendar, which also features gardening tips for each month, was launched at the Narromine Golf Club by council’s general manager Ian Rogan and sold like hotcakes with guests eager to support a good cause and have a snoop.
Mr Rogan said council sponsored the publication because local businesses “got behind it and the fact that every cent of every dollar will go toward the cancer support group.”
“What I do know for sure about this community it’s volunteer organisations, services clubs, cancer support groups... we are just so well serviced by volunteer groups in this shire so I think we can be really proud to be part of the community and what we are launching tonight,” he said.
“Congratulations for the bravery of those who took a bit of gear off to be in there.”
The organisers said the idea came after they received lots of questions about gardening and decided to put together a calendar which was informative and a “little bit cheeky”.
“We thought it would be a good opportunity to put something together that raises money for a local charity and at the same time showcases Narromine businesses and Narromine community groups,” Mrs Russel said.
“One hundred per cent of the sales will go to the NCSG, we have 450 printed so we know there is going to be at least $9000 before we do a reprint.
“The money is staying in Narromine and the cancer support group do such a wonderful job.”
The calendar was photographed by Vinne Fahey who offered his services for free and used his “do anything, done everything” approach to his craft to capture the local models. The calendar is now available from Narromine Newsagency and upcoming NCSG street stalls.
