Australia Day celebrations at Dundas Park saw a number of prestigious awards presented to some Narromine locals by the town’s ambassador for the year, Carmel Travers.
The award for Senior Sportsperson of 2010 went to Kim Wright. Dawn Fuller was awarded both the Children’s Champion award and the Citizen of the Year Encouragement award.
The event of the year was taken out by the unveiling of the Glenn McGrath statue in Narromine, something that is an asset the shire can be proud to claim, and the Citizen of the Year award was given to Neville Roberts.
All those who won awards on the day or were nominated, should be congratulated for their efforts and services to the community.
With this year’s Australia Day celebrations held jointly by the BlueCross Church and the Australia Day committee, a first for the town, it sure did prove to be a success. Councillor Les Lambert who is on the Australia Day Committee said, “it was a tremendous day in the sense that people were there who had never attended
before.”
There is no doubt due to the popularity of the celebration, next years numbers of attendance will definitely be on the rise.
