Up-and-coming boxer, Lynken Dickson, is celebrating a win after travelling interstate to have a shot at the national golden gloves title.
Born and raised in Narromine the 12-year-old recently moved to Tamworth with his family where her trains at the Westside Boxing Club. Unable to box in NSW until he reaches 14, Lynken’s coach Mike Abra, decided his apprentice was ready for the ring taking him to Caboolture Queensland where he won the golden gloves.
There’s a first time for everything and Lynken calmed his nerves as he contested his premier ring bout as a big crowd cheered on and took out the 46-48kgs weight division. The talented boxer disposed of his first opponent quickly before going the distance against a Sydney boy to grab the gold.
It was an exciting time for Dickson and Abra who said he performed like an experienced and dedicated boxer.
Lynken’s parents Christopher and Robyn Dickson were also in the crowd and said it was a very nerve-wracking experience to watch their son in the ring for the first time.
“We didn’t know what to expect, it was quite a surprise for us, but seeing all the hard work has paid off we are very proud of him,” Mrs Dickson said.
Next step from here is hoping to take Lynken to either the ACT or back to Queensland to try and qualify for national titles.
All Lynken’s family and friends would like to congratulate Lynken on his win and wish him good luck and all the best for the future.
