Even though Saturday was the first week of the harvest break, Colts were kind enough to play Trangie.

This is a perfect example of clubs communicating between each other and coming to an agreement so that everyone is happy and can play as much cricket as possible.

Both clubs should be commended and especially Colts who didn’t have to agree to play but did so to help another team out.

The game itself was played on Dundas. Trangie won the toss and elected to bat with a good opening stand of 39, however, Pop Jenkins wasn’t as fast he once was and the partnership was broken with a run- out. Some good batting by Bill Tyrwhitt 21, Paul Bayliss 22, and Brad Naylor 27 kept the scoreboard ticking over and good lower-order hitting by Orry Berry 55no carried Trangie to an excellent total of eight for 178 after their 40 overs. Colts bowlers never gave up with Jordan Richardson two for 33 off 10 and Dan Coen two for 32 off 10 being the best with the ball.

A good start from Colts was very important but the Trangie opening bowlers kept them tied down with only 12 runs on the board after 10 overs. This put a lot of pressure on the Colts’ batting line-up and the experienced Trangie side took full advantage. Colts were eventually all out for 101 in the 39th over. Josh Wrench (28) and Leon Young (21no) showed some good resistance at the end, but Trangie’s bowlers were too crafty with Dave Pollard (three for 13 off nine) and Dale Hutchinson (two for 23 off 10) being the best. Dave ‘Hair’ Quigley will be pushing for a bowl with the new ball next game, cleaning up the tail with three for three off one.

Thanks again must go to Colts who put their plans aside to help Trangie out.
