Game 1: Mavis Leak and Don Sullivan def Jan Buswell and Barry Riley
Game 2: Rosalie Woods and Micky McIntyre def Ruth Bullock (Sub) and Des Lincoln
Game 3: Betty Purvis and Stephen Buttsworth def Lynda and John Edwards
Next week’s matches in this event are restricted to just the one compulsory match, that being the clash of Rosalie Woods and Micky McIntyre and Mavis Leak and Don Sullivan.
The other match in the mixed pairs that can be played by mutual agreement is a semi-final clash featuring Helen Woolfe and Robert French against Betty Purvis and Stephen Buttsworth.
Social bowls this week saw a good field of 28 go around on Thursday, with smaller numbers on Saturday and Sunday no doubt due in some way to a plethora of Narromine players involved in tournaments and-or special days at other clubs within our zone.
The results of all social bowls are a bit hazy this week and I must apologise for this non-information. I was one of those players out of town for the weekend and I wasn’t able to locate or grab the score cards for these social bowls outings.
What I do know is that Don Sullivan certainly had a winning week getting the chocolates with partner Mavis in a mid- week mixed match, then skipping the winning rinks on both Thursday and Saturday, well done Sully.
The jackpot was not won on Thursday and must be close to the magic century when next we go around.
If you see any formal results with regards the social bowls, it will mean I have had a bit of luck locating them on Monday morning, so they may appear later in this column.
Barefoot Bowls numbers were down slightly due to a number of regulars being away but those in attendance certainly enjoyed themselves, particularly the girls from Narromine Tyres who had an enthralling match against Bruce, Harry and Ivy.
The winners on the night were the very talented squad from Narromine Auto, capably lead by Deidre Sambrook, with Mary-ann and Geoff Cape helping her on this occasion.
The runners-up were Bob Connolly and son, who filled in at short notice, a nice reward for their help, thanks Bob, whilst the recipients of some winning raffle tickets for the lucky losers on the night was the hospital team.
If you would like to join the party on a Friday night simply phone your name in or come along individually or with a mate or two to the “Bowly” before 6.15pm this Friday night, you don’t even need a set of bowls, we will supply you or your team, and who knows you could win a great prize courtesy of our sponsor Richard Duff or if not lucky at bowls maybe the meat tray raffle might be your forte.
As mentioned earlier in this column a number of our players ventured out of town last weekend for a couple or three events.
Narromine were represented at president’s days at both Yeoval and Condobolin with mixed results. At Condobolin, Mal Dawes, Barry Riley and David McNair were declared the morning winners after a strong win; however they certainly struggled after lunch, leading in the afternoon winners after just two winning ends.
Our other team at Condo, namely Kevin Heatrick, Robert Bateman, and Bruce Livingston came home empty handed despite winning both their games. At Yeoval Cliff Harris, Ray Cross and Bill Wilkie
Narromine also had a couple of teams entered in the annual triples tournament at Parkes Bowling Club.
Jimmy Daley, Neil Bootle and James Daley lost their first game by just one shot, which in the end proved a telling loss, as they won their next three games and were in a position to get something out of the wreck, however a round five loss put them with the also-rans, and therefore no prize money.
Our other team in the competition Rick Bohm, Geoff Bohm and Danny Carnevale finished up day one with three good wins, and were in a strong position to get amongst the chocolates; unfortunately they couldn’t replicate Saturday’s form losing both matches.
They did however get a small cheque for their Saturday play and no doubt both Geoff and Danny will get something out this experience of skipping a rink at this level of play.
The Thursday night’s pool competition entered its second week with extra numbers going around.
Peter Cross defeated Noel Delboux in the final with the winner collecting a handy $20-odd dollars, just another reason for all you budding pool stars out there to wander up to the bowly each and every Thursday night at about 7.30pm.
This coming weekend is certainly a biggy with karaoke scheduled for Saturday night and then our first Super Sunday programmed for Sunday morning.
I know the spice girls are raring to go, but not too sure how the numbers will stack up Sunday morning, could be huge if we get the right results.
With the entry fee of $5 going into the prize pool on Sunday, some lucky persons could win a motza, and of course with the conditions of play, the winning team will come out of the hat, just another reason why all members should have a run on Sunday.
