2010 will be the inaugural year for the Narromine Rugby Club’s Junior Gorillas.
The event will run from Friday April 23 through to June 27 of 2010, which will coincide with the school term two. Enjoyment will commence at 6pm each Friday and the full-time whistle will blow at 7.30 pm.
The Junior Gorillas will be following the TryRugby community pathways program, which is designed around the credo REAL Rugby: R is for Rugby, E is for Enjoyment, A is for Active and L is for Learning.
We are keen to foster in our Junior Gorillas a passion for rugby union, through a 10-week skills development program which will concentrate on teaching all children how to safely play and enjoy the game of rugby union.
There will be three age groups:
1. Walla Rugby, which will cover the six-eight years and introduces the game using Walla tag.
2. Mini Rugby, which is for nine-10 year olds and introduces the contact elements of the game through tackling, rucking, mauling, non-contested scrummaging and line-outs.
3. Midi Rugby which is for 11-12 year olds and is the stepping stone to the full game of rugby union.
Friday nights will combine skill development and game time with programs developed to teach children the skills that will enable them all to play and enjoy the game of rugby regardless of their sporting background.
Our first registration opportunity will be on the afternoon of February 5 (details closer to the date).
The Junior Gorillas committee has been overwhelmed by the community support for developing the game of rugby in the Narromine district (home of the Central West First Division First Grade Men’s and Women’s Premierships), and we would encourage all potential participants to register their interest with the Junior Gorillas Registrar, Cath McDonnell (0418 642 613) or President, Stacey Irvine (0407 437 716). Business houses wishing to become financial members: please contact Shane Bodiam (0427 891 600) or Rod Krueger (0417 866 446).
