Breeze and mirage make life difficult on range for riflemen

06 Nov, 2009 01:04 PM
A warm afternoon at the Narromine-Dubbo rifle range saw nine riflemen fight it out over 600 yards.

A strong mirage was present throughout the day and the breeze whipped around enough to upset most shooters.

Alan Taylor held the lead with a possible after the first stage despite an almost perfect hit from Rob McKay who hit the centre nine times out of 10 shots.

Taylor held on to fire a 49 in his second stage to take out the A-grade Cock O’the Walk award with a 99 off-rifle score.

Rob Rainbow won the B-grade badge with a 92 while Larry Bartimote won C-grade after firing only one stage.

Jack Forster was the lone F-class shooter and scored a pair of 49s.

The weekly handicap trophy went to Alan Taylor with a total score of 102.

Once again the little dot in the centre survived another week.

Individual scores were:

David Forster 46/44, off-rifle 90, handicap 3, total 93; Jack Forster 49/49 o/r 98, F-class total 101;

Noel Thompson 45/46, o/r 91, hcp 8, total 99; Rob McKay 49/49, o/r 98, hcp 3, total 101;

Larry Bartimote 43, o/r 43 one stage only; Scott Monaghan 48/49, o/r 97, hcp 3, total 100;

Alan Taylor 50/49, o/r 99, hcp 3, total 102; Rob Rainbow 47/45, o/r 92, hcp 8, total 100;

Ray Mulholland 17, one stage only, F-class total 17.

On Sunday, several club members competed at the Fashions Mount rifle club prize shoot which was well supported by 50 shooters from all over the State.

Norm Brown won the A-grade aggregate after dropping only one shot for the day to finish on 149.

Rob McKay won second place with a 147 and Noel Thompson won second place in the C-grade aggregate.

Tomorrow shooting will be held over 700 yards beginning at 12.30pm.
