Calmer afternoon weather helps scores

25 Feb, 2011 11:49 AM
Twelve rifle shooters, including two visitors, battled strong winds over 1000 yards at the Narromine-Dubbo rifle range on Saturday with all but four shooters competing with F-class rifles.

Early shooters copped the full blast of the wind and shots were blown from one side of the target to the other. Later in the day conditions calmed down and some decent scores appeared including the shot of the day when Scott Monaghan cleaned up the little white spot which had a record jackpot prize attached.

Best scores at the completion of the first stage were from F-class shooters Dave Forster, Clive Simpson and Dave Goodridge, all with hits of 52/60. In full bore Scott Monaghan had a 44/50.

Monaghan went on to fire a 47 second stage to win the A-grade Cock O’the Walk badge with an off-rifle score of 91. B-grade went to Rob Rainbow with a score of 87 while F-class was a count back between Alan Taylor and Clive Simpson, both on totals of 102, with Taylor winning the badge.

The weekly handicap trophy also went to Scott Monaghan with a handicap total of 94.

Individual scores were:

Rob McKay 42/47, off-rifle 89, handicap 2, total 91; Ted Skewpeck 47/45, F-class total 93;

Rob Rainbow 41/46, o/r 87, hcp 6, total 93; Scott Monaghan 44/47, o/r 91, hcp 3, total 94;
