Stitt hoping drinks will be on him

TAREE trainer Ross Stitt and owner Peter Commerford are patiently waiting to have a victory shout at the bar if lady luck smiles on Igotthelastone.

The seven-year-old lines up in the Have A Holiday At Wooli Christmas Cup (1600m) at Grafton tomorrow with Scott Thurlow in the saddle.

"He's been a bit stiff his last two goes," Stitt admitted. "Surely it must be getting close to his turn."

The Umatilla gelding has finished runner-up at his past two starts on his home track at Taree - beaten a nose by Mr Mumbles over 1600m on November 4 and a half length by Our Mr Lord in the Wingham Cup (1412m) on November 23.

"Marlon Dolendo [on the favourite Le Rhythm] certainly buggered our chances last start when he took off at the 800 metres," Stitt said. "Robbie [Thompson] had to go a mile too early to try to haul him in.

"My bloke's pulled up good from the run. I'm happy."

Igotthelastone has had four runs back from an 11-month, injury-enforced spell, and Stitt, the part owner of AJC Oaks winner Heavenly Glow and promising three-year-old Youthful Jack, said the gelding had returned better than ever.

"He's always had a problem with the joint in his off side front but he's sounder now than he's been in the past three years," Stitt said.

"I don't do a lot with him on the track, he swims a lot, but he's the sort of horse that once he strikes some form he holds it."

The naming of the gelding is attributed to long-time client Commerford, who races Igotthelastone with Stitt and Queenslander Patrick Chaplain.

"Peter came up with the name in reference to it's your shout," Stitt said. "There's a bit of a joke going around it refers to me, but there's no truth in that," he added, laughing.

Stitt has several other chances at the meeting including Best Advice in the Solitary Islands Marine Park Resort Class 1 Handicap (1400m).
