The Little Athletics season may well be finished but this did not stop the team of volunteers, working hard during the June long weekend to complete the last piece of the puzzle for Narromine Little Athletics, a second discus cage.

The club has helped finance many major projects during the past 10 years in Narromine. For example the long jump run-ups, canteen and storage sheds, shot put rings and discus cages. This last discus cage is the last major project needed to give Narromine some of the best athletics facilities in the region.
Little A’s Greg Butcher said a big thankyou must go to all the people who helped out in the construction of the cage.
Firstly Steven Lovett who has no ties with Little A’s but still donated his time to help concrete the discus ring.
“Thanks also to Wayne and Fiona Walker from Walkabout Welding for supplying the necessary steel and their time to help construct the cage, and let’s not forget Brett and Wayne Walters who also have no kids in Little A’s, but donated their trade skills to make it happen,” Mr Butcher said.
“This just goes to show that the small town community spirit is still strong here in Narromine.”
Other helpers included Steve Thompson, Vanessa Powell, Stacey Irvine, Peter Hollingsworth, Mick Bell, Kaylene Galvin, Scott Harding Snr, Scott Harding Jnr and not to mention all the kids who went down to do their bit, Edward Walker, Josh and Harry Irvine, Jacana and Mirakai Powell, Hayley and Lachlan Hollingsworth and Kaitlin and Aiden Butcher.
“Another big thankyou should go out to all the parents from past and present committees. With the club being 25 years young last season, there is quite a few,” Mr Butcher said.
“Without the time and commitment of all these wonderful people the club wouldn’t be where it is today.”
According to Mr Butcher, Narromine Little Athletics is very excited to be hosting the Zone carnival later this year with about 300 athletes coming to Narromine to compete.
“And now with our new long jump run-up and discus cage we can show off Narromine’s fantastic facilities to the other towns in the Zone,” he said.
