Challenge Community Services was a finalist on September 18 at the NSW Disability Industry Innovation Awards category for regional innovation.
The organisation provides people with a disability in the small regional centres of Trangie and Warialda access to day programs.
No disability support services were available in Trangie or Warialda prior to Challenge Community Services setting up their day programs using mainstream community resources.
Trangie Day Choices supervisor Rebecca Robb said participants had become more confident and empowered in their local communities.
“The new program has helped to unite the town and various services in the area,” she said.
“We have seen the local communities come together to ensure the success of the program.”
General Manager Challenge Choices David Hinwood described the role of the organisation in regional areas.
“We are in the business of ensuring people living in remote areas don’t miss out on valuable support services,” he said. The Minister for Disability Services John Ajaka MLC congratulated all the finalists and winners of the NSW Disability Industry Innovation Awards at a ceremony in Sydney. One hundred and eighty representatives from the NSW disability sector gathered to recognise and celebrate with the successful nominees.
“I am deeply encouraged by the quality of the nominations that have been received this year,” Mr Ajaka said.
“It is heartening to see the continued dedication and innovative solutions showcased by both individuals and organisations that work tirelessly to provide high quality services for people with disability.” The NSW Disability Industry Innovation Awards program recognises individuals and organisations that are doing things differently to advance the delivery of services and achieve results for people with a disability, their families and carers.
National Disability Services NSW State Manager Scott Holz congratulated the finalists and winners to the NSW Disability Industry Innovation Awards.
“It is great to see such a diverse range of service providers and individuals coming up with a whole host of new ways to support people with a disability to live the life they choose,” he said.
