o Barbara Newbold, after being defeated in the final of the B Grade Single Championship, congratulating Heather McIntyre.
On a beautiful day on Tuesday, the B Grade Singles Championship final was a tooth-and-nail, hard-fought battle between Heather McIntyre and Barbara Newbold. Heather shot out to a good lead on the first few ends but Barbara battled her way up to level and from there it went end for end with very few multiple scoring ends.
After the 39th end Barbara was leading 29-28. However the 40th end proved to be Barbara’s nemesis and she was not able to prevent Heather scoring three shots to take the championship. Congratulations to both players on a very good match which was marked by president Mavis Leak.
The A Grade Singles Championship final will be on May 29 between Jan Buswell and Rosalie Woods and is something for all spectators to look forward to.
We had 13 social players and two rinks of pairs, one with a swinger and a game of triples. All games were reasonably close so we have to congratulate Helen and Dawn on their player placements.
The vouchers were won by Helen Woolfe and Felicity Powell. The raffle was won by Marj Cosgrove.
The AGM is being held on July 9 and not July 10 as I reported last week as it is always held on the Monday not the Tuesday. Nomination forms are on the board so we are hoping that our members will nominate for the vacant positions of president, secretary, match secretary and vice- presidents.
The men’s bowls committee are holding a barbecue at the club on Friday May 25 at 7pm at a cost of $10 and all pennant players and their partners are invited to attend.
Mixed social bowls is still happening on Sunday mornings with names in by 9.30am for play at 10am.
The four ladies who turned up on Mother’s Day were each treated to a chocolate and scratchies.
We have a big birthday list this week with Helen Woolfe and Betty Purvis today, Maureen Bootle tomorrow, Yvonne Shearwood on Sunday and Kerry Woods having a special one on May 21.
