Both lanes of the Newell Highway between Peak Hill and Dubbo were blocked for part of Wednesday morning following a truck roll-over the previous night.
According to Orana Duty Officer Andrew Hurst, at about 7.30pm on Tuesday July 10, a 67-year-old man from Whiteside in Queensland drove a 2004 DAF prime mover along the Newell Highway towards Peak Hill during heavy rain.
“At a point approximately 15km from Dubbo, the rear trailer of the prime mover lost control, swinging clockwise in a “jack-knife” motion for approximately 180 degrees before rolling on the side of the trailer,” Duty Officer Hurst said.
“The cabin remained upright.”
According to Duty Officer Hurst the prime mover and trailer came to a stop on the western side of the roadway.
“Emergency services responded,” he said.
“Both lanes of the Newell Highway were blocked whilst the trailer was removed from the roadway to allow the highway to be reopened.”
Nobody was injured. Investigations are continuing into the cause of the accident.
