Car becomes airborne

The highway between Narromine and Dubbo was closed for the second time in little more than a week following another serious motor vehicle accident.

Last Friday morning a woman lost control of her white Holden station wagon and collided with a tree on the opposite side of the Mitchell Highway, about 10 kilometres out of Narromine.

The front passenger side of the vehicle took the impact and was crushed against the tree.

The station wagon appeared to have left the road before hitting an embankment which caused it to become temporarily airborne, prior to impact.

Damage to the tree showed the car made impact at a height of about two metres.

A nearby motorist said the woman was not in the vehicle long before she was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital.

It is believed the woman was later flown to Orange Hospital where she was said to be in a serious condition with head and internal injuries and at the time of going to press her current condition was unknown.
