Karate enthusiasts heading overseas

Several Narromine locals have been selected to compete overseas in karate later this year.

Braydon McManus, Tasma O’Brien, Kaylee Nelson, Hunter Delboux and Cody Neve will jet-set off to New Zealand this November to take part in the Trans-Tasman Karate Championships which will be held at Rotorua.

Instructor Mike Ireland is confident this team will do well and is looking forward to their more extensive training in preparation for the event.

“As an Australian coach I have prepared many teams for overseas events in international contests and even world championships and have never been unsuccessful,” Mr Ireland said.

“I have no doubt this team of youngsters can make their presence felt in New Zealand.”

According to Mr Ireland, one of the team members, Braydon McManus recently competed in a tournament in Brisbane against some very classy competitors and managed three major placings.

“Braydon should prove quite an asset to the entire team,” Mr Ireland said.

These students train with Te Ashi Kai Shin Karate at the Narromine USMC of a Wednesday.
