Taking timber from reserves illegal

Local residents are being warned about the unlawful collection of timber from reserves this winter.

According to local police sergeant, Darren Wilkins, police have had cause during the past few weeks to speak to a number of people about collecting timber from local reserves such as Macs Reserve (Warren Road) and 7 mile (Burraway Road).

“We wish to remind the community that these reserves and many others in the area are under the control of the Livestock Health and Pest Authority and are utilised as Travelling Stock Routes / Reserves,” Sergeant Wilkins said.

“The land is Crown Land and governed by the Crown Lands Act and Forestry Act.

“It is an offence to remove timber from any of these reserves whether or not it is fallen branches or dead trees and hefty fines can be issued.”

Police thank members of the community who have advised them when these acts are occurring.

“There is always someone watching,” Sergeant Wilkins concluded.
