WHO ARE THEY: Thirteen residents have put their hats in the ring for council elections.
Nominations for Narromine Shire Council closed at midday on Wednesday with 13 candidates throwing their hat in the ring.
The nominees are: Tony Ellis (re-standing), Ivan Truscott, George Mack (re-standing), Gai Wilson (re-standing), Sue McCutcheon (re-standing), Dawn Collins (re-standing), Bill McAnally (re-standing), Les Lambert (re-standing), Ruth Carney, Midnight Bryson, Bob Barnett (re-standing), Craig Davies and Raynor Jones.
Current councillor and mayor of Narromine Shire Council, Bill McAnally, is in good spirits about the number of locals who have put their hands up to represent their community.
“I think it is great to see 13 nominations,” councillor McAnally said.
“It is healthy to have a choice when it comes to electing a councillor and with 13 nominees you will be able to choose who you think should be on council.”
Out of the 13 nominations, two reside in Tomingley, two in Trangie and nine in Narromine.
“To have candidates from the three communities in our shire is a great thing,” councillor McAnally said.
“It is good that each town has the chance to have their own voice on council.”
With the elections set to take place on September 8 local residents are being urged to vote wisely.
“I think the shire needs to think carefully about who they vote for in the upcoming election,” councillor McAnally said.
“I hope that every person who has nominated for a position on council has done so with the right intentions.”
The candidates who will fill the available nine positions in the upcoming election will have a lot on their plates with an exciting future ahead for the Narromine Shire as plenty of activity is on the cards.
The Alkane Tomingley Gold Project has just been approved, IGA development, Coles development, the feasibility study on the levee that will hopefully bring down the building levels, modernisation of the Trangie Nevertire Irrigation Scheme worth $100 million, modernisation of the Narromine Trangie irrigation scheme worth $60 million, the Asset Management plan and the implementation of an independent internal audit committee which will be invaluable to the incoming council in helping what decisions have to be made.
Who will the nine new councillors be? Only time will tell.
