Rachel Hooper and Margot Winn of the Narromine Community Centre said the portable oxygen tank had been needed for years.
Chairperson of the Cancer Support Group, Jeff Anderson said they raised the money through donations from the community in just over 12 months.
“(The machine) will give people mobility, they can make day trips and have a better quality of life,” he said.
Narromine Cancer Support Group member Neville Roberts said the portable equipment would allow patients to go and see specialists in Dubbo or even further.
“It allows people to travel, because all the specialists are in Dubbo,” he said. “It’s FFA approved so it can travel on aircraft.”
Mr Anderson said the machine was for short term use so everyone in need had access to it.
“It would be nice if it didn’t get any use, but in reality it’ll get heaps (of use),” Mr Roberts said.
Mrs Winn was thrilled by the gesture.
“We want to say a huge thank you to the Cancer Support Group,” she said.
The Cancer Support Group would also like to thank the community for its ongoing contributions.
“The service clubs have been tremendously supportive,” Mr Anderson said. “Patients can contact the support group or community health if they need anything. The numbers are available at the Community Health Centre.”
