RUGBY UNION
The wind was very strong and blowing from the south-west when the first grade sides took to the field.
Orange won the toss and had the wind behind them in the first half. Their fullback Staniforth was very dangerous during this period as he is a great kicker and he really peppered our boys with high kicks that were very hard to handle.
Orange were first to score with a penalty goal and then not long after the number 10 for Orange scored in the corner after a clearing kick from behind our tryline did not go out due to the very strong wind.
The score was 8-0 and Orange were on a roll. Narromine regrouped and started to get on terms with their opposition.
Lachlan McCutcheon scored in the eastern corner and the conversion attempt from Kilby hit the post. 8-5 to Orange. Another penalty and the half-time score was 11-5 to Orange.
The wind eased off a bit during the second half and McCutcheon was in again for the Gorillas. This try was converted by Kilby and the boys were in front 12-11.
The teams were very even for the next 20 minutes then with 15 minutes to go Burgess scored after great work from Kilby, Duff and Luke Harding. Kilby converted and the score was 19-11.
Orange threw everything at Narromine but great defence from the Gorillas meant that the efforts of Orange went unrewarded.
At full-time everyone agreed that the sponsors and paying customers had got their money’s worth. What a great game in difficult conditions.
Best players were Charlie MacInnes 3, Mick Harris 2 and Luke Brown 1.
Second grade were up against a good side and they had a tough day.
Orange led 17-0 at half-time and went on with their good work in the second half to win comfortably 41-0.
This weekend we travel to Parkes for the last round before the semi-finals.
