The Maggies were competitive in the first stanza, going to the break trailing 30 to 16, but they fell off the pace in the final 40 minutes finally being defeated 66 points to 22.
Of the 12 tries that the Unicorns scored, seven of them went to their centres Travis Smith and Anthony Harris with Smith crossing for a handful in an impressive display, whilst Harris notched up a double.
The win by the Unicorns sets up a tantalising top-of-the-table clash with the Dunedoo Swans at Dunedoo this Saturday.
If Coona can become the first team to lower the Swans' colours this season, the race for the minor premiership will be on again, even if Dunedoo would still enjoy a two-point lead on the competition ladder should that occur.
Both teams possess strong outfits across the park and the game will feature many great individual positional clashes in a game that should see Robertson Park jam-packed for what many a pundit would see as a grand final preview.
Coonabarabran 66 (Travis Smith 5, Anthony Harris 2, Peter Watton 2, Michael Watton, Daniel Pracy, Caine Thompson tries, Michael Watton 9 goals) defeated Trangie 22 (Paul Widders, Dylan Hohnberg, Hayden Ellis, Jye Carter tries, Nathan Toole 2, Ellis goals)
