Trailing the hosts 8-6 at the break the Lions turned it on in the second period to race in three quick tries to Manu Halasima, Gus Brotherton and Mitch Green to relive shades of the team's mammoth 113-point Blowes Clothing Cup victory over Mudgee just last week.
But the hosts steeled, Narromine rallying late before the final margin ended at eight points.
Always a tough road assignment in Narromine, Orange City skipper Josh Maley said the Lions would happily take the four points.
"We're happy with the effort," Maley said on the way back from Narromine on Saturday night.
"There were plenty of good phases but next week we'll have to work on a complete 80-minute performance.
"We'll have to improve our discipline as well, that was a bit of an issue today."
A far cry from the Lions' 118-5 win over Mudgee a week ago, Maley admitted it was tough for the Lions to back up after such a massive triumph over the Wombats.
"It was tough. (Narromine has) got a big physical pack and we were a bit flat after last week, everything came so easy for us against Mudgee, and Narromine came out hard and we were a bit shell-shocked," Maley said.
Cementing a top three spot, the Lions are still eyeing off a home semi-final in week one of the finals and to do so must finish second or higher on the ladder.
Naturally for City (51 points), bonus points are crucial in the Lions' bid to catch both Orange Emus and Dubbo Roos, both on 56 points.
Orange City plays CSU Bathurst, Bathurst Bulldogs and Emus over the final three weeks of the 2014 regular season.
Bonus point wins in all three are required to usurp one of the current top two.
Looking at Saturday's win, Maley praised the work of open-side flanker Gus Brotherton, with last year's Central West Rugby Union player of the year again outstanding in dismantling the massive Gorillas pack.
"Gus is back to his best, he had a blinder," Maley said.
"And Quinny (Nick Quinn) was another who played well for us.
"We wanted that bonus point but the win is obviously more important than that."
