Council voted in favour of extending the park rather than moving the Cenotaph back into the park at its meeting on Wednesday night.
Crs McCutcheon, Lambert and Mack all spoke for the Cenotaph staying near the centre of town while Cr Collins voted against themotion.
"Politically, I think people will be happier with this option. We're in the process of trying to figure out the roads, there will be less large trucks. It will keep it like it is and we won't have trucks or caravans parking in front of it," Cr Sue McCutcheon said.
Cr George Mack also voted in favour of keeping the monument in its prominent position.
"I'm in favour of option one, I think it's a very historic site and I don't believe there is any danger at all to it," he said.
"From listening to people they say if you've got to move it, move it as little as possible. And I've got say I agree with that myself because of the history of the site.
"It's really well lit up, You'd see it still as you drive down the main street, as you drive down the main street at the moment. You'll see it a lot better from the Dubbo end than you would if it were in the park, so I'm in favour of option one," he concluded.
Cr Dawn Collins called for the motion that the Cenotaph goes into Tom Perry Park.
She said she cannot support Council if they keep it in the town centre.
"I'm in favour of moving it into the park. I'm not in favour of it staying on the road. For the safety of the monument and it's many years in the future," she said.
Cr Ruth Carney seconded this motion.
Cr Les Lambert believes the Cenotaph has to stay out in the open so it doesn't get lost in the park.
"I believe the aesthetics of option one (town centre), it can be seen in all directions as you come into town, I don't have a problem of moving it into the park, other than the fact once the trees go around it, it will be shadowed or blocked, that's why I'm going to support option one," he said.
Cr Collins argued the trees can be moved.
Cr Collins' movement was defeated.
