A Mr Robert Lamb, who most in Trangie would know as 'Scrubby', came to see me on Thursday August 8 to ask if I could help him sort out a problem with the council regarding his brother's grave site in Trangie.
He said it cost $11,000 for the burial with a very expensive box and funeral and now his brother is lying in a mud hole.
He asked if I would go with him and see for myself. I did that and took a picture or two. He was most upset and I understood why as the picture will show.
I told him I would contact council on his behalf to find out why it was in that condition and what they could do to fix it. I sent an email to the council's engineer and to the mayor along with the picture.
I have to commend council on its quick response as they had a crew go out and remedy the problem that afternoon.
Apparently there was an oversight and water was left on accidentally causing the flood. Mr Reg Cower from council emailed back that they would send a gang out there to repair the area and then monitor the grave site and top up the soil as it subsides. He offered a full apology for me to convey to Mr Lamb which I did.
Mr Lamb did ask if I would write in to the newspaper as he was worried others might have the same problem in the future.
Trangie has a lot of elderly people living in town many like Mr Lamb who said he can't write letters too well and was not sure what to do especially with government federal, state or council departments.
I offer my assistance to all Trangie's elderly that need help filling out forms, writing letters or whatever at no charge. I am only too willing to help.
I can be contacted on 02 6888 8467 or 0404 795 007 or call around to my place 49 Burraway Street Trangie.
