Well while there were no championship matches scheduled this week there was still plenty of action on and off the green with an impromptu Saturday afternoon social bowls outing played along with good numbers on our regular Thursday and Sunday outings.

Firstly to Thursday afternoon where 18 gentlemen took to the green where we saw on rink eight the trio of Warren Brown, Bob Ashdown and David McNair garner some 13 points in winning 24/14 over Don Gibson, Bert Hand and peter Cross. On rink nine Robert Bateman, Clifton Harris and Don Sullivan obtained a working man's 12 points in their 25/21 win over Teddy Webb, Phil Harding and James Coen, with the best effort of the day awarded to the winning team on rink 10, namely Geoff Anderson, Ray Rutledge and Ray Cross who put the sword to "Rabs" Macqueen, Bruce Livingston and Danny Carnevale 19/14. The jackpot remained intact and will be a healthy few more dollars next week, just one reason to come along and have a run. Sunday's chook run attracted a steady 16 boys and girls, with the organisers putting four rinks of pairs into play. A full wrap of results went something like this: rink eight Kevin Short and Arnold Gillespie defeated Robert Bateman and Bruce Livingston 16/14. Rink nine Tracey Silk and Bill Wilkie defeated Ruth Bullock and Don Sullivan 23/09. On rink 10 Andrew Macqueen and Danny Carnevale won 13/11 over John Woolfe and Clifton Harris whilst on rink 11 it was the duo of Peter Payne and John Silk who prevailed 19/14 over Bob Ashdown and Stephen Buttsworth. Judge James was left in charge to make the rulings and he awarded first place to Tracey and Bill for their tidy 13 points, whilst Peter and John, also with 13 points but an inferior margin, got the runners-up spot.
With the A triples final not scheduled for play due to players being unavailable, an inpromtu afternoon of social bowls was organised and mine host for the day Mr James Coen put a couple of meat trays up for prizes just to add to the incentive to come and have a go. Well some 20 gentlemen did just that and with a few new faces lining up to boot, it turned out to be most enjoyable for all and sundry.
On rink one Paul Hilder and Budd Cape defeated Warren Brown and Peter Cross 21/13. On rink two it was a new bowler Sam Jeffrey who teamed up with Bruce Livingston to win 25/18 over Alex Sambrook and Phil Harding. On rink three and again great to see Henry Buttsworth back on the green, and teaming up with President Kevin to win 24/16 over the formidable pairing of Clifton Harris and John Edwards. Next up on rink four we saw Robert Bateman and James Coen record a comfortable 23/20 (well maybe not so comfortable) win over Ted Webb and David McNair, whilst in the last of the five pairs matches it was Geoff Anderson and Ray Rutledge who prevailed 22/17 over Mark Hilder and Des Lincoln. So five good tough matches and the day's winners were, drum roll please, Henry Buttsworth and Kevin Rider, well done boys.
This weekend sees the time honoured Fino Day take pride of place and it looks like we might have a full house come starting time, "yee har''!!! This event kicks off Saturday morning with teams of four playing a variety of formats right throughout the day. Cost of the day is $20 per player and includes lunch and no doubt some great prizes on offer to those lucky enough to be in a winning team. At this stage there might still be a spot or two available so if you're not in a team and would like a run ring the club and let them know you're available, always handy to have a reserve on the sidelines, it's a long day.
Nominations for the B grade triples also close this Saturday and at this stage we have a "half-decent" field entered, but of course there's always room for more teams, so again if you're of a mind to be in this event get your team in before Saturday night, a draw for this event will be done Sunday and play will commence the following Saturday the 13th.
Our annual general meeting has been scheduled for Sunday September 14 and to date nominations for the board of management have been coming in at a steady stream. If you're of a mind to stand for the board, then you best be quick about it as "noms" close on Sunday. I also noticed along with the "noms" posted to date a notice of motion that will require voting on at the annual general meeting.
And of course members are reminded that should you wish to peruse the financial report then you have to formally request a copy, as under the new constitution the club is not obliged to send all members said financial reports.
Not much more to report this week, hope to see you up at the Bowly some time during the week and with the weather warming up, might even be able to have a roll-up, that would be nice.
