The students participated in a Kids Teaching Kids conference to explore a range of concepts, issues and innovations surrounding sustainable farming practices and production.

This was the first high school Kids Teaching Kids conference in central west NSW.

The day was supported by Central Tablelands and Central West Local Land Services (LLS) to coincide with the Target Kids Teaching Kids week, according to Central West LLS Officer Catie Guise.

"Kids Teaching Kids week saw thousands of students across Australia taking part in conferences such as this and investigating ways they can improve their local environment," said Ms Guise.

"While this is the first conference for high schools in our region, we hope that the excitement of Kids Teaching Kids will inspire other schools to continue along this learning journey."

In another first, a careers expo featured as part of the day.

"Students had the opportunity to meet with industry professionals and investigate a variety of career and study options available to them in the agricultural and environmental sectors," said Ms Guise.

This year also sees the Kids Teaching Kids organisation celebrating 15 years of working with and inspiring students across Australia to learn and care about their environment.

At the heart of the program is a belief that peer education is one of the most effective ways to encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and actions.

This can in turn benefit local communities and ensure our environment can be sustained.

Central Tablelands and Central West LLS are pleased to provide ongoing support for schools across both regions to participate in this program.

Students from Neville Public School will travel to Perth in October to represent New South Wales at the international Kids Teaching Kids conference.
