Community members will be offered a financial reward when they provide information regarding a vandalism event to the Police and legal action is taken against the offender.
The Council carried the motion to adopt this new rewards policy at Wednesday's Council meeting.
The policy states the amount of the award is equal to the remediation costs of the vandalism capped at a maximum $5000 per event and that the reward has an annual maximum cap of $15,000 per financial year.
Mayor of Narromine Shire, Bill McAnally, believes Council will be better off in the long run if it stops Council owned property being damaged.
"We'll be saving money, if we have to pay $5000 to save a $100,000 asset being burnt down it's good," he said.
"Rewards will only be handed down if people are prosecuted."
Cr McAnally said it's only a small amount of people causing the malicious damage and he hopes this incentive will encourage people to talk to the Police about them.
"It's not only affecting Council financially but also morale wise. We've had a lot of property vandalised," he said.
Dubbo City Council ran a similar campaign in May this year.
The Council awarded $2500 to people reporting information which leads to a conviction on vandalism.
Cr McAnally said this campaign was successful for the Dubbo Shire.
Council owned assets have been targeted in a recent spate of vandalism in Narromine.
The Narromine Racecourse and Showground were broken into, vandalised and robbed in early September and the Narromine Garbage Depot was robbed and burned down in the following weeks.
Narromine Churches of all denominations and businesses have also been targeted in recent times.
Two people were arrested on September 24 by Orana Local Area Command and charged with 14 offences, including various acts of vandalism around the town.
The 17 year-old male and 23 year-old male have both been refused bail and are due to appear in court in the coming months.
