Minister for Local Government Paul Toole and Member for Dubbo, Troy Grant announced the subsidy from the NSW Government in round three of the Local Infrastructure Renewal Scheme (LIRS) yesterday.
"The application from Narromine Shire Council will see $3 million spent on upgrading 22 unsealed roads in the region," Mr Grant said.
"I am delighted that Narromine was a successful applicant. The delivery of this program will mean a reduction in travel time and all round better driving conditions for locals."
The LIRS was introduced by the current Government to encourage councils to make greater use of borrowings to accelerate investment in long overdue community projects.
Under the third round, council is provided with a three per cent interest subsidy for up to 10 years on loans. Mr Toole said in the first two rounds of the scheme, 137 individual projects across 87 councils had benefited, unlocking almost $680 million for shovel-ready projects. "Thanks to round three of the scheme, an additional $148 million in infrastructure spending will be unlocked," he said.
