Another busy week of action to report on, with another final and championship matches in a couple of events thrown in as well, yes folks it was all happening up at the "Bowly" last week, and the good news this week sees more of the same.
Firstly to the championship matches and congratulations to "Rabs" Macqueen, Luke Hutchison and James Coen who annexed the B grade triples title last Saturday afternoon with a solid performance in the final where they defeated Mal Dawes, Clifton Harris and Arnold Gillespie 26-13, but not before the vanquished had led for the first half of the game.
But a telling run of five consecutive ends and some 10 unaswered shots saw the winners get out to that unassailable lead with only a few ends to play and despite Puddy and Co winning their share of the last half a dozen ends the bird had flown.
In the mixed pairs over the weekend Jan Buswell and Phil Harding had a solid win on Saturday against Dawn Barry and Robbie Stanford and then followed that up with another tradesman-like performance Sunday morning against the Carnevales to advance to the last four of this event.
Also advancing to the last four were Barb and Des Lincoln who defeated Lynda Edwards and David McNair surprisingly comfortably, when most pundits had thought this would be a closer go.
So the last four standing in this event are Ruth Bullock and Peter Cross, Helen Woolfe and Robert French, Jan Buswell and Phil Harding and Barb and Des Lincoln.
These semi-finals will be played next weekend with hopefully the final the following weekend.
The consistency singles event is also down to the last four after the weekend and again the last four standing in this event namely Henry Buttsworth, Steve Riley, Aaron Hutchison and Arnold Gillespie will also face off next weekend and if all goes according to the script their final will follow the weekend after as well.
For the record the match results in the consistency were as follows Aaron Hutchison 150 defeated Gordon McIntyre 69, Arnold Gillespie 150 defeated Don Gibson 130, Henry Buttsworth got to 150 first to defeat Bob Davis, who also finished on 150 after the tally was recorded for the last end, whilst Steve Riley won via a forfeit from Jimmy Daley, who wasn't feeling well enough after a stint in hospital to line up over the weekend, that's a tad unlucky for Jimmy who was in good form too.
Social bowls numbers were again disappointing but those in attendance certainly enjoyed themselves: Thursday saw Steve Riley and David McNair get the spoils on offer thanks to a comprehensive 29-6 win over Bob and Des.
Having to settle for the runners-up cheque were the trio of Bob Weir, David Sherlaw (visitor) and Don Sullivan who enjoyed a solid 24-17 win over Mal Dawes, Geoff Anderson and Danny Carnevale.
Sunday social bowls resulted in a top podium finish for Ted Webb and Clifton Harris who scored some 12 points in the handy 21-12 over Don Seebury (visitor) and Peter Kelly.
In second spot was the trio of Judy Bateman, Bob Ashdown and Steve Riley who also scored some 19 points but had an inferior margin of victory to the day's winning team, but still a good effort that was rewarded with a small refreshment for their troubles.
The Judge was back on deck and it didn't take him long to give the jackpot prize pool away again, well done Harry and weren't Ted and Clifton pleased about it well.
The bowls committee are hoping to also put on some first-round matches in the mixed triples this coming weekend. C Smith, C Carnevale and D Carnevale will play M Dawes, L Edwards and A Gillespie.
While in game two D Barry, L Hutchison and R Stanford will play J Coote, R Ashdowne and D Sullivan.
Well that's it for me this week. Nearly had a roll-up last week and with B5, AKA Brother Bootlace home this coming weekend hoping to exact some sort of pain on him (on the green of course), but could be a tad rusty, "ah well" time will tell.
