POLICE REPORT
As part of the government's red tape reduction initiative from October 15 the NSWPF will be changing the way police respond to some motor vehicle crashes.
These changes will result in police being required to investigate and record fewer traffic crashes. The changes are also aimed at increasing road safety.
A summary of the key changes are:
NSWPF will cease to take reports of self reporting 'Minor Traffic Collision (P5)' incidents.
The definition of a 'Major Traffic Crash' (P4's) will be amended to remove the criteria of 'a vehicle is to be towed away'. Crashes where this criteria is the only reason a police investigation would have previously been required will become self reporting 'Minor Traffic Crash - Tow Away Only' incidents. This new category of crash report is suitable for referral to the Police Assistance Line.
The responsibility of police to attend all crash sites where they are needed to manage hazards, traffic and other issues will remain a priority.
