CELEBRITY SPOTTING: A cab driver in New York got a pleasant surprise when he picked up his last customer for the day. Cabbie Manny Anzalota picked up none other than actor Tom Hanks, and made such an impression he was invited to see the actor's Broadway show. RADIO: 2Day FM has finally acted to dump its underperforming breakfast team, replacing them with Dan Debuf and Maz Compton, presently heard on the national Drive show. The move is the coup de grace for the disastrous Breakfast Show, which originally featured former Spice Girl Mel B, Sophie Monk, Merrick Watts and Jules Lund and was launched to much fanfare at the beginning of the year. RUGBY UNION: Paul Hennock believes he's left the Dubbo Kangaroos in a healthy position after announcing he won't be coaching the Blowes Clothing Cup champions in 2015. Hennock led the Roos to their first title since 2008 this year after a season in which the Dubbo side led the competition for majority of the season. But with his family recently making the move to Yeoval he admits he's keen for a break from the week-to-week demands of a coaching role. READ MORE HERE

A $750,000 project to transform a prominent site in the centre of Dubbo formerly used by Centrelink into an upmarket shopping space has received approval and a $72,000 concession break.

Developer Macquarie Commercial Property sought to change the use of and refurbish 188 Macquarie Street from offices to allow five proposed retail tenancies within the property that had been without permanent tenants for more than two years.

The national names proposed for the $750,000 first stage of the project were already located in Orange and Tamworth as well as other regional cities, the developer advised the council. 

Dubbo City Council granted approval to the application in September, but included as a condition an urban roads contribution of more than $138,600.

COURT IN ALBURY: A woman named by a coroner as responsible for the death of Myrtleford toddler Daniel Thomas in 2003 has broken down in tears after pleading guilty to assaulting her mother earlier this year. Mandy Martyn yesterday screamed out during the proceedings at Wodonga Magistrates Court, which were finalised even after her mother sent a letter to the court saying she didn’t want the matter to go ahead.READ MORE HERE

FUEL IN WESTERN NSW: Millions of dollars in taxpayer money could be given to fuel companies if the federal government goes ahead with its plan to index the fuel excise but the NRMA has vowed to vigorously oppose the plan. NRMA director for Western NSW Graham Blight said the government's plan to avoid getting the indexation passed through the senate by making it a proposal will backfire if it doesn't get through the upper house within 12 months. READ MORE HERE

COTTON IN NARROMINE SHIRE: Cotton will be sparse this season after water allocations have left Macquarie Valley farmers high and dry. Two per cent water allocations for the valley have meant many cotton growers have only sown a portion of their regular crop or none at all. READ MORE HERE

DRUGS IN WELLINGTON JAIL: A weekend Wellington police operation at the Wellington Correctional Centre has nabbed a number of people trying to bring drugs into the jail. Senior Sergeant Brad Edwards from Wellington Police has again warned visitors that actions like this will not be tolerated. Sniffer dogs and members of the NSW Correctional Services assisted in the arrest of a 25-year-old central coast woman who attempted to take 46grams of cannabis into the correctional centre. READ MORE HERE

SOLAR IN DUBBO: Lingering uncertainty about the federal government's renewable energy policy has brought to a standstill work on a solar farm planned for Dubbo. Soleir's Dubbo Solar One Project was expected to proceed late last year and be completed by the middle of this year, but the company said progress would remain difficult until the federal government made "its political view known" now it had completed its review of the Renewable Energy Target (RET). READ MORE HERE

FARMERS IN WESTERN NSW CAN FEED WITH APP: A new smart phone app will enable farmers to develop drought feed strategy for livestock and make timely decisions all while standing in the paddock. The Drought Feed Calculator app, developed by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), allows farmers to boost production by accurately matching feed levels with energy requirements for sheep and cattle. READ MORE HERE

NARROMINE GETS FUNDING FOR FIGHTING FIRES: Narromine will be more fire-safe this season with funding allocated for new brigade stations and fire trucks. Troy Grant is pleased with the funding allocation. Narromine is one of four shires to receive this funding from the State Government. READ MORE HERE

WELLINGTON GETS GOOD RESULTS IN NAPLAN: At a time when many schools are battling to move up the ladder, Wellington Public School is moving ahead in NAPLAN. "It was with intense pleasure that I looked from one aspect of literacy to another and then went on to see the same thing in all aspects of numeracy," principal Denis Anderson said. "I was absolutely amazed. Our teachers are dedicated to the core and our children are delivering." Much of the success in literacy can be attributed to programs like the Daily 5 and L3, and between the two programs the students are developing a love of reading that will be with them for life. READ MORE HERE
