Zone Change Mitchell Highway - Under section 57 of the EP & A Act 1979, council advises that it is currently assessing a planning proposal to change the zone on Lot 5122 DP 1083390, Mitchell Highway, Narromine from RU1 Primary Production to R5 Large Lot Residential. The amendment to the zone will allow the proponent to develop the land into four new rural residential allotments. The planning proposal is on public exhibition from October 8 2014 to November 5 2014. During this time the proposal may be inspected at the Narromine Shire Council Office, 124 Dandaloo Street, Narromine during normal office hours. Any interested person may, within the specified period, make written submission to Narromine Shire Council with respect to the proposal. If the submission is in the form of an objection, reasons for the objection are to be included in the submission. Council advises that unless requested otherwise, any submissions received will be considered public documents and made available for public viewing if required. In making a submission, a person is able to remain anonymous. However, as this may limit the ability to discuss concerns raised, anonymous submissions may be given less weight in the overall assessment. Submissions are to be sent to the General Manager, Narromine Shire Council, PO Box 115, Narromine, NSW 2821. If you have any enquiries regarding this matter please contact Council's Acting Director of Planning Kylie Rowe on 6889 9950.

November - Asbestos Awareness Month - Don't play renovation roulette. Visit www.asbestosawareness.com.au. It's not worth the risk. November is national Asbestos Awareness Month. In the lead-up to Asbestos Awareness Day (Friday November 28) all Australians especially homeowners, renovators, tradies and handymen need to 'Get to know Asbestos this November' by visiting www.asbestosawareness.com.au to learn how to protect themselves and families from exposure to dangerous asbestos fibres. Many wrongly believe only fibro homes contain asbestos. Asbestos products can most likely be found in any Australian home built or renovated before 1987, even brick, weatherboard, fibro and clad homes: in garages, kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, walls, eaves, fences and under wall and floor coverings: it could be anywhere. Further information please contact: Narromine Shire Council Planning and Environmental Services on 6889 9950.

Council will offer a reward of up to $5000 to people providing information on vandalism to council-owned-or-managed property. The reward is payable for information leading to legal action being taken e.g. criminal proceeding resulting in a conviction, finding of guilt or offence, formal police caution/warning or a juvenile justice conference.
