GAMING NEWS: As the breadth of video games expands and the agility of filmed content increases (both through production technology and delivery services like Netflix), the future could see the line between games and filmed content blurring with very different results than we've seen in the past. This week marks the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a curated museum of content that celebrates the triumphs of the 13-year-old game series while also embarking on a few new experiments. BOOKS: It was J.K. Rowlings' Harry Potter series that demonstrated the modern blockbuster sales potential of a children's book series with crossover appeal. Hollywood has since built multimillion- dollar film franchises from adaptions of Twilight, The Hunger Gamesand Divergent. Beckton says many book covers in young adult fiction are age-ambiguous and offer little clue to the explicit nature of the content. She knows of one high school that restricts all such fiction to year 8 students. Even sales catalogues distributed through primary schools often show young adult books next to picture books, Beckton says. Read more here

RACING: Evergreen sprinter Hewentwhoosh has overcome a series of niggling setbacks to be ready to rumble at Quirindi today. Trained by Brett Thompson at Gulgong, the eight-year-old resumes in the Xmas At The Races December 13 Benchmark 70 Handicap (1100m). Hewentwhoosh hasn't raced since winning the Gulgong Cup (1200m) on June 8, a break of 22 weeks. Read more here.
SWIMMING: Twenty swimmers flocked to the pool last Sunday to contest the Schloeffel Family monthly trophy. The November trophy was previously sponsored by Radio 2DU and the Ducks are very appreciative of their support and thank them for their very long association with the club. 8.09: Have you been caught out by a local camera? Mobile speed cameras in Dubbo have issued more than a quarter of a million dollars in fines in the 2013-14 financial year.
A total of 1,823 people were fined during the financial year, creating $251,114 worth of revenue for the Community Road Safety Fund to support road initiatives such as installing flashing lights in school zones
The highest number of speeding offences were recorded from people travelling west on Wingewarra Street, with 1002 fines issued during the financial year, equalling $138,325 worth of revenue.

7.52: Today is Remembrance Day. At 11am, memorial ceremonies across Australia will be held for the traditional Remembrance Day service, marking the end of WWI hostilities.
Wellington resident Snow a'Beckett has remembered his father who enlisted in Wellington on November 23, 1914. Almost 100 years ago.
Mr a'Becketts father has been recognised in the National ANZAC Centre.
"This is pretty early in the piece considering there were hundreds of thousands of men. This means a lot; someone from Wellington will be recognised in a national museum. He is the only one we know who will have this kind of recognition,"

HEALTH: The Alfred Hospital has launched an internal inquiry into allegations made by five of its doctors that a top surgeon may have placed Victorian patients at risk. Read more.
HEALTH IN REMOTE AUSTRALIA: "We always talk about the bush being a good lifestyle, but you die out here." The average person in remote western NSW can expect to live a shorter life than someone in North Korea or Iraq, the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics has revealed. Read more.

RIVERINA: The Griffith and Wagga communities are in shock, mourning the loss of Georgina Bartter, who died at Sydney's Harbourside festival at the weekend. Two people have died after a crash involving a semi-trailer and car south of Coonabarabran overnight.
The crash happened Newell Highway shortly before 10pm (Monday 10 November 2014), about 10km south of the town.
Police from Mudgee Local Area Command have been told the car was struck by the semi-trailer while doing a U-turn.

Western NSW: The liquidator appointed to agriculture equipment company Cornish's has reassured creditors he is addressing their concerns.The Daily Liberal were contacted last week by creditors growing frustrated at the lack of information they had been provided about Cornish's going into liquidation. More than $4.3 million in total is owed to around 250 companies. Read more here
Nyngan: A war has broken out between the main contractors at the Nyngan Solar Plant and the union that represents their workers with both organisations claiming to have made complaints to government bodies. A number of claims have been made by the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Electrical Union about the poor health and safety practices by management of the project, all of which have been denied by contractors First Solar. Dubbo: Dubbo Police are investigating the theft of saddles and associated equestrian equipment from a premise in Dubbo on Saturday, September 20. Police have released images of the two saddles stolen. Police are seeking assistance from the public to keep a look out for the two saddles and to report any sightings. Read more here
Dubbo: A restaurant that's put fresh food and live music inspired by the blues scene on the menu in the centre of Dubbo will vie for top honours this month. In its first year of operation Old Bank Restaurant has hosted international artists, added a music shop and developed a wide range of craft beers. Still with a month to go before the first anniversary of opening, owners Michael and Gloria Picton have another reason to smile. Read more here
Dubbo: Four lots in the latest release of land in Dubbo's Keswick Estate have sold on their first day on the market. Some buyers arrived in the early hours of the morning armed with camping chairs to ensure they secured their desired block, a spokeswoman for vendor Dubbo City Council reported. Read more here
