To date 14 teams have nominated, and with the usual late rush expected the next day or so, this event at this stage is definitely a goer.
It would be nice to think that we might get a few more Dubbo teams, given the lure of the mighty dollar, and not too many expenses required to get all the way out to little old Narromine, but time will tell.
So if you haven't entered and are reading this column, please jump on the phone and call the Club 0268891164, you might just be able to still get a run.
For those who have entered and are unsure of the starting time, well we are hoping to get the first game on the paddock around 09am, and given the likelihood of the temperature being reasonably hot the earlier we get off at days end would certainly be better than later.
So that's what's happening this weekend up at the "Bowly", what happened last week I hear you ask?
Well we had a couple of semi-final matches in the mixed triples contested with one match going into extra time, whilst the other battle wasn't really a battle at all after the half way mark.
For the record Dawn Barry, Luke Hutchison and Robbie Stanford won a thriller 17/16 over Betty Purvis, David McNair and Steve Buttsworth with an extra end needed to sort out the final result.
In the other contest it was reasonably close at 12/12 after some 10 ends in the match featuring Helen Woolfe, Clifton Harris and Robert French taking on Craig Smith, Carol Carnevale and Danny Carnevale, but unfortunately for Danny and Co they failed to bother the scorer for the next nine ends and so Frenchy and Team recorded a comfortable win.
This now sees this event out to the finals status but unfortunately this match will have to be delayed owing to the Triples tournament taking precedence next weekend, but hopefully the final confrontation in this championship and our last for the year will take place on Saturday November 22, which will allow the Bowls committee to program the annual presentation morning as planned on Sunday November 30.
More about this day can be found on the club notice board, where there will be a spot to "plonk" your name and partner/ wife/ husband/guest down for catering and or bowling purposes.
Social bowls this week saw that dynamic duo Ashdown and McNair fresh from their Melbourne Cup Win clean up on Thursday at afternoon social bowls via an emphatic 28/12 win over Robert Bateman and Bob Davis.
The boys collected the lions share of the loot on offer albeit only just as Craig Smith, Peter Kelly and Don Sullivan also scored 17 points in their comprehensive 22/10 win over Ted, David and Danny, but had an inferior winning margin to the days victors.
Sunday morning social bowls saw Ted Webb, Kevin Short and Arnold Gillespie atop the podium courtesy of a strong 17/12 win over Wayne, Bob and Danny, whilst the other winning rink on the morning namely Mick Wright, Geoff Bohm and Des Lincoln had to be content with adding a win to their C.V. as there were insufficient starters to award a runners up cheque.
The bowls committee are hopeful of conducting a couple of events leading up to Xmas, and to that end have put some information up on the notice board to explain what's happening. so perhaps a visit to the notice board might unveil all, worth checking out for sure.
Well that's it for me for another week, happy to be home, after a lovely 10 days with my brother, down on the Mornington Peninsular.
Must say that the weather pattern in the Melbourne region is still weird, looks like it hasn't changed much since I had the pleasure of living in that neck of the woods in the early 80's.
You still needed to have track pants and jumpers at the ready, yes in November, and did I mention the hail, rain, and almost snow like sleet, no well that's what we got during the Saturday afternoon pennant match I watched, and of course all done with a stop for afternoon tea, just as the sun came out at around 03.30pm, yes they do things differently in "Mexico"
