This 300 metre shoot was unique, being the first shoot held on the club's new electronic targets which have finally been commissioned following a lot of preparation by club members.
The new targets eliminate the need for having markers to indicate shots and value the targets; now the shooter and scorer have a laptop screen instead. Electronic targets are now in use at many of the larger rifle ranges throughout Australia.
Shooters had to contend with mixed conditions; a strong mirage interfered with F-class sighting and the wind affected everyone.
At the end of the first stage Norm Brown led the target rifle shooters with a 48/50 while Scott Monaghan and Rob Rainbow shared the lead in F-class on 55/60 each.
The second stage saw Rob McKay shoot the only "possible" for the day to win the A-grade badge.
Dave Forster fired a 56/60 second stage in F-class, but Scott Monaghan won the badge after scoring another 55/60 to finish on 110/120 off-rifle.
The weekly handicap trophy was a close finish with both Dave Forster and Rob Rainbow tied on 100 apiece.
Visiting shooter Steve King was first to hit the white spot (now named the pinhole) to claim the pot.
Individual scores were:
Dave Forster 53/56, F-class total 109/120; Scott Monaghan 55/55, F-class total 110/120; Rob McKay 44/50, off-rifle 94, handicap 2, total 96/100; Rob Rainbow 55/52, F-class total 107/120; Norm Brown 48/46 o/r 94, hcp 2, total 96/100; Clive Simpson 52/54, F-class total 106/120; Brett McCauley 44/47, visitor total 91/100; Steve King 46/41, visitor total 87/100.
Next Saturday shooting is from 400 metres starting at 12.30pm.
