There were probably many who refused to believe that appearing on a TV show where you’re required to go on dates with people you’ve never met while wearing no clothes was the most efficient path to true love and lasting happiness.

There would have been doubters — such is the cynical world we live in today. But now those doubters will have to eat their doubts like so many pasty, flabby wads of flesh, because Dating Naked: The Wedding is here to illustrate just how happy two people who met nude on a TV show can be.

Ashley and Alika — one of whom is a man and the other  a woman — are getting married, the spark lit between them on the show having proved impossible to extinguish. Their wedding will be a naked wedding, because why wouldn’t it be?

Presumably, having met while naked, every major life event will be naked from now on: naked funerals, naked christenings, naked home loan applications. Also, all the guests at the wedding will be fellow Dating Naked contestants, a combination of contractual obligations and the fact that Ashley’s grandma doesn’t want to go to a naked wedding. This means that not only do we get to see the happy couple celebrate their love, we also find out how the relationships formed in the show have progressed a few months down the track, and get another look at their blurred-out genitalia.

Of course, the episode isn’t all romance: there are some darker turns, particularly when it’s revealed that Mikey and Stephanie have made a music video, which takes us into a kind of Gothic horror. There’s also some friction between Steve and Marissa, who clearly have different life goals, Steve’s life goal is to never stop talking as long as he lives, and Marissa’s life goal is not to end up with Steve.

But the main event is the wedding itself, which sets new records for televised awkwardness, with the rehearsal dinner replaced by a naked yoga session, guests given drums and encouraged to make their own music, and Ashley making her bid to become public nudity’s answer to Gwyneth Paltrow. Not to mention  a human being named ‘‘Wee Wee’’.

Being naked on TV may be a strange addiction, but possibly not as strange as those  on My Strange Addiction (GEM, 9.30pm). Here we have Lacey, a mother of six who can’t quit cosmetic surgery.  She’s spent more than $250,000  on 30-plus operations. Imagine how great she’d look on Dating Naked.
