It's the last of the redemption rounds and the "hot butchers" (I guess hot-with-beer-goggles-on butchers doesn't really roll off the tongue) are on the chopping block. Someone WILL be sent home tonight. This will be repeated several thousand times throughout the episode. Buckle up.

"I'm not being nasty," says Kat, providing one of the few real gags of the night, "but I really hope the girls butcher this tonight." Boom-tish.

"The girls are butchers, Nikki knows how to handle her meat, I think we're in for a wild ride," says Sheri, who has described every instant restaurant to date as a wild ride.

Their entree is chicken livers with potato rosti and garlic spinach. An offally risky dish if you ask me (sorry, it's catching). To Manu, it's "yum" like Petit Miam, but he rightly observes that not everyone will share his views.

After a blatant Big Four Bank paypass plug, the girls head to the supermarket, where their checkout is conveniently staffed by a mildly cute guy. Nikki smiles and bats her lashes, Pussycat Girls' Don't Cha is playing, it's all very contrived and very bad.

"I like to get a bit of flirting in my day so it was good to tick it off early," she says, reading from the autocue.

Back at home, they're prepping their instant restaurant, Sassy. Because they are sassy, geddit? In case you didn't, they've painted the definition of Sassy on the wall, also adorned with a million selfies and big pink lips everywhere. The place looks like a bordello. Annie is the happiest person in the room.

But there are mixed reactions to the chicken livers on the menu.

"Eating organs doesn't scare me, I'm ok with trying new things, I just have to cut my brain off and go to a happy place and taste and swallow," says Sheri. Manu looks impressed.

He wanders into the kitchen to make the girls uneasy about their choice of entree. "I'd rather go out with a bang," says Katie, "than go home playing it safe."

More worrying than the liver, almost, is what Katie is doing with the rosti. "I don't think anyone's ever cooked rosti on a sandwich maker," she says. Probably not the time or place to start, sweetheart.

It goes out, the livers, crisp wafer of rosti, and garlic spinach with aioli. Also, some sultanas soaked in red wine vinegar are plopped onto the plate for reasons that are unclear. They look like rabbit poo.

Pete gives the liver a tick, but the rosti gets a big cross. "It's terrible," he says. "One of you should have made the decision to take it off the plate."

Manu loves the liver, but nothing else.

Most of the guests don't really like any of it at all.

The main is pork cutlet with bacon sauerkraut and onion knodel – does Nikki have a German background, or has she just spent a lot of time at Oktoberfest in a dirndl? Katie makes a salsa verde but it's too vinegary, so Nikki steps up to whip up a quick mustard sauce.

At the dinner table, Kat bitches about how long the main is taking. Much of tonight's episode consists of Kat bitching and the rest of the table talking about Kat's bitching.

While Kat is going on about how desperate she is to stay in the competition, one of those "polar opposite" girls from Victoria remarks that judging should be based on the food alone, and not strategic, or else you look like an idiot. Kat pretends to agree but doesn't really agree at ALL because she was the first to start all this strategic bitchy judging in the first place.

The main arrives, and when he tries the crackling, Manu does that thing where he looks at Pete foodgasmically, which is pretty much the best part of this show.

But if the crackling was the hero, it didn't quite manage to save the pork itself, which is a bit overcooked. Still, Manu is a big fan of how all the flavours work together, and that mustard concoction of Nikki's? More sauce!, says the Frenchman.

There is some time to fill so the producers gift us with this terrible "Katie and Nikki's Cooking 101" which consists of a rehash of their top three blonde moments of the night, including forgetting to put the garlic in the garlic aioli. Oh, my sides.

Kat bitches. "Everyone else has gone forward, we've gone back, this is because of strategic scoring," she says.

"There's only one way to stay in this competition, and that is to cook some good food," says Manu, his words slapping Kat like a frozen mackerel.

Kat cops a backhander.

Finally, dessert – "kick-ass apple pie with burnt butter ice cream".

"This dessert better be kick ass, otherwise their asses are going to be kicked out," says Eva.

But it's not all it's cracked up to be. The burnt butter icecream is a hit, but the kickass apple pie is more of a sad little tart with a blob of caramel sauce and a sprinkling of nuts.

"The crust isn't short enough," says Manu.

"The filling is watery," says Pete.

Kat's eyes glitter. For all her bitching about being strategic, she and Andre award the girls a miserly 1 out of 10.

They don't fare much better with the other teams, who score them between 3 and 5.

Back in kitchen HQ, ALL of the teams across all remaining groups assemble to see who is going home.

Pete and Manu do that thing where they repeat everything that they've already said about the entree, main and dessert.

Having collected a measly 17 from the other teams, with Pete and Manu's contribution, Nikki and Katie manage only 52, four less than Kat and Andre.

The girls are going home, but Nikki's not overly fussed.

"We're still two young, hot blondes," she says. She forgot to add, "delusional".

The young, hot, blondes ride their unicorns into the sunset.
