The soaring temperature and strong wind did not deter Narromine High School students from making the most of their athletics carnival last Wednesday.

Participation rates were high and community spectator numbers were also up on previous years, despite the less than perfect conditions.
Doongara was awarded the athletics championship cup finishing the day on 969 points. Nurrewin took second place on 830, closely followed by Girralang with 833 and Wyamba on 766 points.
There was a lot of "house pride" evident on the day with many students dressing up in their house colours and supporting their team.
A number of long-standing records were broken on the day.
Aiden Butcher's throw of 47.15m in the 14 boys discus smashed the previous record of 38m held since 1984 by D Wise.
Brad Simmons broke the 17 boys long jump record, held by D Smith since 1988, and set a new record of 6.05m.
Isayah Kelly's long jump of 5.87m added over 50cm to the 15 years boys record of 5.33m set by J Wallace in 1998.
Kaitlin Butcher broke the 17 girls javelin record, held by A Walker since 2006, by over 5 metres to set the new record at 35.6m.
Qualifying athletes from this carnival will have the opportunity to compete at the Western Region Carnival to be held at Barden Park in Dubbo on Friday, July 24.
