The Colts cleared back from 3 to 15 down eight minutes not the second half to finish "even-Stevens" 20-20 right on the bell courtesy of another try to Daniel Battishall.
It's early days but the boys, playing a little "one-out" of times, will develop more teamwork as the person proceeds.
Coaches Tony Bock and Dan Maroulis have an exciting season ahead.
Seconds were well beaten, their off-season cobwebs still on view.
Blake McDougall proved a handful for the opposition with ball-in-hand; while Bill Rybak will be the one to watch. Dwayne Gordon was judged "players' player" by his team mates in his first game for the Gorillas.
First raced away to an 11 to three lead during the first 20 to 25 minutes but then their lack of match fitness saw Dubbo grab the next 36 points.
Defenders faced over-lapping Roos regularly in the second stanza; while the fly-boy out wide, Chris Light and DJ Gordon saw little open space when the ball arrived.
Michael Treseder stood firm in the scrum; Liam Mayes lifted a notch or three; Ryan Pratten grabbed the three points for "best-and-fairest", while Dan Maroulis "don't argue" before scoring his try was one for the ages.
Greg Wynn's two line kicks from deep back were bash well concerned and well-executed.
This Saturday, April 18 it's off to have a chat with Forbes.
