Central West firm, Thompsons Irrifab, will carry out the work for just under $350,000 and the work should be completed in August.
Narromine Shire Council met on May 13 and and announced the successful tenderer for the installation of 3.8kms of rising mains associated with the upgrade.
Council was successful in obtaining a grant of $1,290,000 for the water supply upgrade project in Trangie, provided under the NSW State Government's Water security for Regions Program, part of the ReStart NSW Fund. The Trangie project includes the installation of two new bores which are now complete, and a new pipeline which connects the two new bores and two existing bores with the water reservoir located in the middle of town.
Narromine Shire Council's Mayor, Cr McAnally said the competition for the pipeline project in Trangie was surprising because 16 tenders were received by council for the work.
" Council has not had this level of interest in a council water project in recent times," he said.
"Because of the level of interest, council has been able to get a keen price from a contractor who has undertaken similar work in other council areas.''
Council has also received a Restart NSW grant for water security work in Narromine totalling $690,000. This includes the installation of a new bore to provide additional water to Narromine and the interconnecting pipework and associated equipment.
"Work is well advanced on this project which is focussed on locating a suitable site for a new bore and the associated design work. The Narromine project is expected to be completed well before Christmas 2015," Cr McAnally said.
"Council appreciates the funding being supplied by the State Government for this project.
" We are now able to undertake the work necessary to help safeguard both Narromine and Trangie against future drought, which is an excellent outcome."
