Congratulations to Aaron Hutchison our 2015 A grade singles champion. Aaron won a terrific final 31-27 before a big crowd of window tappers last Saturday afternoon.

His worthy opponent, the giant killer of this year, Henry Buttsworth played right up to his form and provided plenty of his own highlights during the course of the match.
As has been the case in most of his matches this year Henry made a quick start and had a handy lead early after half a dozen ends, but Aaron soon reeled that lead in with a couple of telling "multis"to slip out to a handy lead as well. At 19-9 after 17 ends most pundits would have thought oh well he will go on with the job from here.
But to Henry's credit he found that necessary extra to stage a great fightback and at 23-26 he was certainly back in the frame for the title and indeed at 27-29 the pundits had swung around a bit and weren't too sure who would prevail, but when Aaron won three ends in a row the match was his.
So all in all a great final, with quality bowls from both players, some 37 ends of play brilliantly marked by president Kevin, and another event on our calendar finalised.
Not to be outdone we also saw some exciting clashes in the B grade singles championships and again in most instances the quality of the bowls was also excellent for this grade of contest.
For the record Alex Sambrook defeated John "Hodgo" Woolfe 31-11, Aaron Clark advanced to the next round courtesy of a strong 31-18 win over Murray Woolfe, whilst in the marathon of the Day David Price edged out Jimmy Daley 31-26, with Marker "Rabs" almost needing a second card to continue the scoring, as the boys played 39 ends over the three and a half hours the match took to complete.
So next weekend with the bowls committee having decided to commence the A triples championships, there is just one match in the B singles to be played.
That match involves Henry Buttsworth and Geoff Cape and is set down for play at 1.30pm Saturday.
In the A triples event three games have been scheduled for play and for the record they are as follows:
Game 1: David Price, Steve Buttsworth, Danny Carnevale will play Andrew Macqueen, Mark Hilder and Aaron Hutchison.
Game two sees Mick Wright, Trent Jacobson and Steve Riley take on William Shaw, James Daley and John Edwards, whilst in the last encounter it will be the trio of Phil Harding, Des Lincoln and David McNair up against Alex Sambrook, Budd Cape and Robert French. So three interesting clashes and hopefully the window tappers will get their money's worth.
Social bowls numbers were again on the ordinary side this week with just half a dozen brave soldiers going round Thursday and a mere 10 lads turning up for the chook run on Sunday. On Thursday the winning trio was Bob Davis, Robert Bateman and Danny Carnevale, who managed to squeak out a 20-15 win over Warren Brown, Robert Ashdown and Clifton Harris.
On Sunday Robert Bateman and Arnold Gillespie were deemed the best performed winning team after they recorded a solid 19-11 win over Peter Cross and Bill Wilkie.
On the other rink Trent Jacobson, Bob Ashdown and David McNair just outlasted their opponents Mark Smith, Sam Crook and Lionel Ayoub 17-14 in what was a most interesting clash. Hopefully with the school holidays happening for the next couple of weeks, we might get a few more starters for social bowls, wouldn't hurt.
Had the pleasure of attending the presentation evening for our 2014 state sides champions last Friday evening at Dubbo City.
Whilst a number of the squad couldn't be there for a whatever reasons, those in attendance were acknowledged by their peers and supporters.
Zone president Don Breeze presented the commemorative shirts to the winning squad members, including Narromine's own Robbie Stanford, plus a few officials including yours truly.
All in all a great night, and on a personal note very humbling to be included in the kind remarks regarding the selection and performance of this team.
The Flyer for the Gub Thorne Day will be going out to other clubs next week, and with Narromine's allocated spots nearly full up, best you take a gander at the noticeboard to avoid missing out on what will be an outstanding day of bowls.
