Mrs Burrowes joined the Red Cross on January 1, 1986 and she was a staunch Red Cross member during her entire time at Narromine Red Cross. Along with Marie Lynne, Jenny formed and ran the Junior Red Cross.
This entailed attending the local schools and educating students in the ways of the Red Cross. This activity was carried out for 40 weeks a year and went for five years.
Mrs Burrowes was also known for her delivery of Meals On Wheels through the Red Cross roster for 28 years.
In 1989 Mrs Burrowes embroidered all the names of the Narromine Red Cross members onto small squares which were to form a large banner that was hung in the Powerhouse Museum. This took a lot of hours of intricate needlework.
At the start of 1990 Mrs Burrowes started up the Red Cross Hands on Program at Timbrebongie House and the Day Care Centre, also training other volunteers to carry out the activities as well.
On many occasions Mrs Burrowes has opened her home to the community to raise money for the Red Cross.
She served as president from 1989-1990 and 1993-1995.
Mrs Burrowes received her long service medal on April 24, 1997 and long service bar on May 2, 2006.
Mrs Burrowes was known for her active, hands-on approach and reliability at the local Red Cross and in the community as a whole.
It is because of this she was awarded with the Red Cross Service Award.
Jenny Burrowes passed away on January 6 this year.
