Miss Albouze was chosen from three entrants to represent the shire over the next year at various events.
Other entrants were Sam Reid and Laura Duncan.
The showgirl was crowned on Saturday night at the Narromine Aerodrome in front of a variety of community members, groups and sponsors. Miss Albouze was delighted to be named as showgirl.
“It wasn’t as daunting as I thought it would be. It was very enjoyable. I would recommend the experience to other young women,” she said.
Showgirl co-ordinator Sara McGilchrist has great faith that Miss Albouze will be an excellent representative for the shire.
“It is important for Narromine to be well represented by our showgirl and I know that Claudia will be a great ambassador for the community and do a wonderful job,” she said.
“A big thank you to all our showgirl entrants, you did a wonderful job and the judges were very impressed.”
A big crowd of community members gathered at the aerodrome for one of the biggest nights of the year.
To be crowned Narromine Showgirl the entrants must partake in questioning by a team of judges about their knowledge of Narromine and agriculture amongst other topics.
“To become an entrant for showgirl I had to fill out a small form giving some of my details then I had to attend an interview where I was assessed by three judges and then I attended the ball,” Miss Albouze said.
She singled out the questioning as one of the event highlights.
“I enjoyed meeting new people and learning skills like how to handle difficult questions on the spot,” she said.
Contestants are judged on personality, confidence, ambition and life goals, general knowledge, rural knowledge, presentation and speech.
Mrs McGilchrist said the showgirl competition aimed to find a young female ambassador for rural NSW and the agricultural show movement.
“The winning showgirl of each local show society is selected by a panel of three judges and remains showgirl until the next year’s show,” she said.
“Claudia will go on to compete at zone level in February next year and represent the Narromine Show Society against the other showgirls in our zone. If selected as a zone winner, Claudia will go onto the Sydney Royal Easter Show and be in the running as a finalist for The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl.”
Miss Albouze’s commitments go further than representing the shire at zone though, she has an exciting weekend at the Narromine Show ahead.
“The showgirl’s role may involve many official and informal duties locally and nationally, such as opening the show, public speaking throughout the year and presenting prizes for winners in agricultural events,” Mrs McGilchrist said.
It has also become a tradition that past showgirls help the current showgirl and the show committee.
“I am ably assisted by previous showgirls Clare Webb and Rachael Reid. We also have good support from Steph Jenkins (2013), Sam Blease (2014) and runner-up 2014 Jessica Blease,” Mrs McGilchrist said.
Miss Albouze is thrilled to be able to make a significant contribution to the community over the next 12 months.
“I applied for showgirl as I thought it would be a fun way to meet new people and give back to the community of Narromine,” she said.
Mrs McGilchrist thanked everyone who made the ball possible.
“Thankyou to all to all our fantastic sponsors, without your support we would not have a show ball, and your continued assistance is greatly appreciated by the entire community. Please remember to support our sponsors,” she said. “
We wish Claudia all the best of luck in all her duties and upcoming competitions and look forward to supporting her in her role as the 2015 Narromine Showgirl.”
