For the Terriers it will be the first time that they have played in a Castlereagh League grand final, with the added bonus they will be the host club on the big day on Saturday September 5.
Similarly the Trangie Magpies League Tag team will be their club’s first ever to have contested a Castlereagh grand final. Playing in the major semi-final at Coonamble in front of a large and boisterous crowd the Maggies upset the minor premiers, the Coonamble Bears, registering quite a comprehensive victory.
With a handy breeze at their backs in the first half the visitors were well on top at half time leading 18 points to nil with the kicking game of Lea Clarke proving to be instrumental in giving the black and whites good field position which they were able to convert into points with the speedy and evasive Isabella Cameron scoring a double along with Shona Artery also touching down after a good run.
The Bears gave their supporters some reason for hope after the resumption of play when their star player Tori Canham scored after a sensational 85-metre journey to the line but that was to be it as the Magpies regrouped and ran in three more tries themselves to career away to a 34-6 victory and a historical grand final berth.
The Bears will also be looking to bounce back in the League Tag, taking on the Dunedoo Swannettes in an attempt to get another crack at the Trangie Magpies for the right to be known as the inaugural Bendigo Bank Castlereagh League League Tag premiers.
The Magpies have a rest weekend before the big game on September 5. Trangie 34 (Isobella Cameron 3, Shona Artery, Sonya McMaster, Lea Clarke tries, Melinda Gleeson 4, Clarke goals) defeated Coonamble 6 (Tori Canham try, Emily Warner goal)
