It was a huge week for Narromine Bowling Club with resounding success on and off the Green for all concerned.
No doubt the highlight of the weekend was the continued domination of the Narromine Rookies, who added the singles title to the tally for 2015.
It was a proud president who presented Ben Clark, Trent Jacobson, Aaron Clark and Sam Crook with their Zone badges on Saturday night.
Aaron and Sam will now represent Zone 4 in the State Titles at Raymond Terrace next month, a remarkable achievement in itself, but these rookies, along with Andrew Macqueen (another rookie player) have also been part of our Club Challenge Gold Division Side the past couple of weekends, and playing against Grade One players with years of experience have not let themselves or the club down with some outstanding performances.
So it augers well for the future, if we can keep the enthusiasm that abounds the club at the moment, hopefully it will turn into even bigger results.
Our NAIDOC Day last Saturday saw some 66 players take to the green to play for the Bill and Norm Newman Memorial Shield.
We welcomed an influx of visitors, namely Lorn Park Travelling Bowlers, the Manildra Lads, and a few regular supporters from Dubbo, which made for excellent competition.
At day’s end it was the trio from Manildra, Des Cross, Chris Gosper and Graham Fliedner, who got the lion’s share of the loot on offer.
The runners-up cheque went to local lads Geoff Anderson, Peter Cross and Phil Harding.
Third spot went to that always hard to beat trio of Mal Dawes, Arnold Gillespie and Don Sullivan, while the fourth-placed team was the Lorn Park number five squad.
But it was not just about bowls as the crowd also enjoyed the musical talents of Lorn Park member John Farmer.
Not to be outdone Mark Smith sung a nice ditty as well. Very versatile that Mark who did the traditional welcome on behalf of the local Indigenous people before days play.
We had a few games of consistency singles scheduled for Sunday but again only one was completed, which resulted in a win for Ben Clark over Mick Wright.
With the long weekend in play this coming weekend there will be no matches scheduled by the bowls committee. However depending upon who is available and raring to go there could be a championship match or two played, might be best to wander up to the club later in the week and see what is happening.
Social Bowls this week saw Noel Delboux, Clifton Harris and Don Sullivan record the day’s best card courtesy of a healthy 31-11 win over Ron, Sam and Steve.
Other winning teams included Terry Burns, Bob Davis and Arnold Gillespie and also the duo of Don Seberry and David McNair, but both had inferior numbers of points to the day’s winners.
Sunday morning we only had 10 soldiers go round, with Don Seberry, Bill Wilkie and David McNair getting all the chocolates courtesy of their good win over Gordon, Bob and Kevin.
Heather McIntyre and David Price did it a bit tougher in their clash with Bob Davis and Peter Cross, eeking out a 14-12 winning scoreline.
With daylight savings coming into effect this weekend the social bowls times will change for Thursday afternoon bowls, but exactly what that time is, I don’t know as the new bowls committee are hopeful of introducing some innovative and exciting changes to this event.
Watch this space.
Well that is it for me for another week. Best of luck to those teams playing in tournaments this coming weekend.
