Member for Dubbo and Deputy Premier Troy Grant has encouraged seniors to take advantage of the potential savings available on their electricity, gas and solar bills through the NSW Seniors Card Program.
"The NSW Government continues to make the extremely popular NSW Seniors Card program bigger and better each and every year," Mr Grant said.
"This new deal, which now includes a special offer for solar electricity, will help make ease seniors' cost of living pressures.
"This is deal is great news for seniors in the region particularly as we head into winter."
With AGL's 2016 offer, Seniors Card holders in NSW can receive;
o A guaranteed discount of 18 per cent on electricity (20 per cent if combined gas)
o A guaranteed discount of 12 per cent on gas (14 per cent if combined with electricity)
o A guaranteed discount of 18 per cent on solar electricity (20 per cent if combined with gas)
oThree months free solar electricity and a solar monitoring service with sign-up to AGL's Solar Smart Plan
o $25 credit for online signup for either gas or electricity
o $50 credit for online signup to both gas and electricity
The NSW Government partnered with AGL in May 2015 to offer NSW Seniors Card members access to discounted energy plans.
Since then, more than 27,000 seniors have joined the plan.
While savings will vary depending on individual circumstances, for Seniors Card holder and AGL customer Rob Perriott of Newport, the benefits of the AGL offer are clear.
Initial calculations estimate that taking up the special AGL Seniors Card offer would save Mr Perriott more than $200 on his annual household electricity and gas bill compared with his current plan.
AGL General Manager, Marketing and Retail Sales, Mark Brownfield said AGL was delighted to renew the offer and continue to work with NSW Government to provide NSW seniors with great savings.
"AGL's energy offer gives NSW Seniors Card holders' access to competitive discounts off their gas and electricity usage charges as well special offers on solar and a range of other benefits. We also have a dedicated seniors' line to answer any questions seniors might have about the program," Mr Brownfield said.
Last year the NSW Government promised to provide more savings for Seniors Card holders by investing a further $2 million over four years into the Seniors Card program to expand the number of businesses offering discounts. There are over 1.4 million people with a NSW Seniors Card, which provides discounts on a wide range of products and services from more than 2000 individual businesses across the state.
