A strange thing happens to astronauts the longer they are in space – they use more and more chilli sauce to flavour their food. At first scientists assumed that the unusual environment of space was affecting their taste buds and they physically needed more spice to flavour their food. However, it turns out that with long stretches of inactivity and a limited choice of pre-packaged meals, the phenomenon is actually the result of boredom.
