More than 20 people gathered in front of the Trangie Library on Friday morning to show their support.
Organiser Shane Dolton said he's thrilled but not surprised by the efforts of the community.
"We had big business houses in Trangie, we had landholders, people like the Quigleys came in from way out of town," he said.
Trangie is known for contributing to cancer foundations, having donated over $500,000 to the Jane McGrath Foundation through pigeon races, bowls, golf and a huge regional cricket match.
Mr Dolton, who also organises the pink pigeon fundraiser, knows the strain of having to travel for cancer treatment.
"I've been crook, I've had grade three melanoma, I've had my prostate cut out, I had to go to Sydney and everyone had to come and visit me, it's a stress on everyone," he said.
"How good would it be not to have to travel to Sydney or Orange, because cancer affects everyone in some way, it takes no prisoners."
The support for a Dubbo cancer centre is growing with a petition, run by the Rotary Club of Dubbo West, gaining more traction.
Organiser Lyn Smith told Fairfax Media she's quite confident the goal of 20,000 signatures will be achieved.
At Saturday's Farmer's Markets in Dubbo, Ms Smith said there were crowds of people wanting to sign.
"Lots of people knew about it and they were deliberately coming over to sign," she said.
"Why would anyone not support it? It's for everybody in the region. Everybody in the region will either get cancer themselves or have a family member with cancer or a loved one who will."
Anyone who is interested in supporting the cause is encouraged to sign a petition available around the shire or like the Facebook which at the time of print had close to 11,000 likes.
